The Adidas Group scored 47.5 out of 100 points making it the sixth best performing company. The company is a member of the BCI.
The Adidas Group acknowledges the issues that exist in cotton cultivation and is committed to using 100% more sustainable cotton by the end of 2018. The company is one of the founding members of the BCI – through which it addresses HHPs, water use, biodiversity issues, and labour rights violations. The company has a ban on Uzbek cotton but it remains unclear how it avoids the uptake of Uzbek cotton exactly. Outside BCI membership, the company does not have additional specific corporate policies in place to address issues in cotton cultivation. Nor does it report on cotton recycling initiatives.
The Adidas Group is third in the ranking for percentage of more sustainable cotton used. In 2016, 68% of its cotton was Better Cotton.
The Adidas Group states a commitment to transparency and public disclosure and updates its global supplier list twice a year on its website (including primary suppliers, subcontractors, and licensees). However, it is not clear what percentage of its suppliers are published in these lists. The company does not publish information on the absolute volume of all cotton used, nor a list of countries of origin.
